Social Media - we're hearing more about it every day, and some of us don't even know what it is! Here is a definition from SearchEngineWatch.com: "A category of sites that is based on user participation and user-generated content. They include social networking sites like LinkedIn or Facebook, social bookmarking sites like Del.icio.us, social news sites like Digg or Reddit, and other sites that are centered on user interaction."
Today we're going to talk about Del.icio.us, or delicious.com. The site is a Social Bookmarking site, or a place where you can organize all your favorite sites, mark them, and share them with other people who have signed up for Delicious. A very cool part of Delicious is that you can "tag" your bookmarks. Tags are simply words that describe your bookmark. For example, if you were tagging a blog post from your inn, or even your inn web site, you might use the works "bed and breakfast" or "Your city" or "recipe", whatever fits your post. This way, when people search for those terms, your bookmark will appear in the search results.

You can then start adding bookmarks, including downloading the bookmarks you already have on your browser. You then add "buttons" which make it easy for you to bookmark and tag your sites.
This is important to innkeepers because you can bookmark your site and blog, then tag them with relevant tags, which will then make it easy for people to find your site or blog via search. The search results include anything with a URL- so that means Google Map listings, Tweets. It's really open to the World Wide Web, so get out there, and start bookmarking your site, blog, review sites, maps, anything you can dream up.
If you have a Delicious story to share, please comment on this post!
