The big buzz today is the new Facebook Business Page Timeline Feature. This feature will become mandatory on March 30th, 2012 so we recommend jumping in now and trying out the new look and display options. Please watch our video below for tips and pointers as you convert over to the new Timeline display.
One thing will immediately be apparent. If you've built or had a Landing page built for you, your users will no longer see it unless you direct them to it by making sure your landing page app tab is on the top row of your apps. With this Facebook release, it will no longer default for visitors that have yet to LIKE your page.
You'll also be able to add a "Cover", which is a 851 x 315 pixel photo that represents your business. Make sure you DO NOT include any of the following on your Cover Photo.
These guidelines are from the Facebook Help Center:
-
Price or purchase information, such as "40% off" or "Download it at our website"
-
Contact information, such as web address, email, mailing address or other information intended for your Page's About section
-
References to user interface elements, such as Like or Share, or any other Facebook site features
-
Calls to action, such as "Get it now" or "Tell your friends"
You can also add your logo in the 180 x180 pixel space for your profile picture, like this:
Another nice, new feature is the "Milestone" post. When you add a post, you can click the little pencil icon in the upper right corner and click the little star. This will make the post stretch across both columns of your page. Make sure if you use this feature, you don't get carried away with it.
You can also pin a post to the top of your page. Do this by clicking the pencil in the upper right corner, then choose "Pin to Top". The pinned post will now go to the top of the Timeline and have a little gold ribbon marker on it. You can use this to indicate important content.
