The function of a Mobile Web site is to facilitate potential guests searching for a B&B from their mobile device (Android, iPhone, iPad, iPod, Blackberry or any device with a visual Internet display). Because your full Web site is built in a wide format to be viewed on a laptop or desktop monitor, much scrolling would be required for your site to then be viewed on a mobile device. Building a mobile site gives the potential guest basic details about your property at-a-glance, thus allowing them the opportunity to contact you about availability perhaps as they are driving into town or doing quick research on their lunch hour or between meetings.

How a Mobile Site is Displayed
When an Internet search renders an organic results display that reflects your main Web site URL based on the strong SEO marketing Acorn has put in place on your main Web site, the visitor will be automatically redirected to the mobile site, if they are using a mobile device that has been identified and referenced as “Mobile”.
Custom Mobile Site
A Custom Mobile Site will be built to support a different format than your desktop site. In other words, the Mobile site is built with totally separate Mobile Site pages. Our Custom Mobile sites support their own URL via a sub-domain. This style of Mobile site is recommended and supported by Google’s Mobile Guidelines (see page 24).
Switched Content Mobile Site
Our Turnkey Mobile Site option that is included in our Turnkey Design Solution uses the same URL for both desktop and mobile content, but “changes” or “switches” its format according to the User-agent. IE: Whether it is being viewed from a PC or a Mobile device. This style of Mobile site format is simply a standard Mobile Friendly Theme that complements the Turnkey Design. This style of Mobile site is very inexpensive to provide when using the WordPress System, and thus is included at no extra charge in the Turnkey Design solution. The Switched Content Mobile site is also supported by Google’s Mobile Guidelines (see page 27).
On our Custom Designs, we have the option of adding a small button or link in the upper left corner of your full Web site that says “Mobile View – Click Here” in order to catch any new devices not currently recognized as Mobile devices. On our Turnkey Designs, the “Switch to our Mobile Site” link is at the bottom of each web page.
This type of feature is recommended since there are many new devices being added and if the visitor’s device is not detected, they can still click on the button or link to go to the mobile site.
Search engines will continue to index your main Web site and not the mobile site. People should only see your main Web site in the search engine results, but when they click on a listing they will be automatically redirected to the mobile site if they are using a mobile device; thus no additional SEO (Search Engine Optimization) is required on your mobile site design.
