WEB SITE MAINTENANCE: DIY (DO IT YOURSELF PLUS)

Once your site has been made search engine friendly and is loaded on a hosting server that provides good web site statistics, it's important to keep your site FRESH. In other words, keep the available data up to date. Web sites that are continuously updated (once a month to once a quarter) carry more weight with the various Search Engines. We offer a variety of options to make the process of keeping your web site updated and fresh and simple and cost-effective as possible.

Definition: Maintenance is the on-going support to change the content of the current web site files. An example of this is when data such as rates, photos or any current data changes. The files, in turn, will need to be modified to reflect such changes. Once your web site is designed, a maintenance program is available to continue to keep it up to date.

FTP Self Serve (Free)

FTP Self Serve is for those do-it-yourselfers who want to upkeep their web site on their own. Acorn staff will set up an FTP account and provide you with the host, username and password.

The Customer Maintained option is for those do-it-yourselfers who want to upkeep their web site on their own, but do not have the skills, tools or technical experience to use the FTP Self Serve option listed above. Acorn offers the installation of a tool called Snippet Master. Using this simple wysiwyg (What You See Is What You Get) content-editor tool is for those web site owners who want a very easy, quick, and visual way to edit a pre-defined area on any web page through their browser without messing up the rest of the web page. If you can pull E-mail online, or know how to use a word processing tool such as WORD or WORD PERFECT, you have the skills to use Snippet Master to update the text on your web site. IT REALLY IS THAT EASY!

Upon request Acorn will install the PRO version of Snippet Master. Time billable at Development Rates.

For the customer who doesn't want to undertake maintenance changes on their own, we will be happy to make ongoing web site changes at our current billing rates, billed by the minute, per quarter.

SnippetMaster

SnippetMaster Lite (the free vesion) will no longer be supported by Acorn as of January 1, 2007. Customers may continue to use this product, but should they experience issues, an upgrade to the paid version of SnippetMaster Pro will be required. SnippetMaster Pro is a 3rd party application that Acorn is able to provide on their servers to allow a customer to make MINOR text changes to their web site without the need of a developer. SnippetMaster must be loaded in a Firefox browser. SnippetMaster is NOT a web design tool. The Pro version will also allow file uploads as part of its program. This is most often used to load images that have been previously sized with a customer-owned photo editing program. SnippetMaster Pro phone, E-Mail, training and general support questions are billable. It is important to note that as we continue to build more and more complex web sites, the ability for customers to load and display images will be restricted to a photo gallery page only.
